Making Homemade Pizza
Making homemade pizza can be easy, fun and delicious! My favorite is a Jalapeño Popper Pizza and its gluten-free, grain-free, and clean keto. These also will not spike your blood sugar.
Now before you turn up your nose and run, hear me out. You can make a Pizza start to finish, including warming the oven in about 1 hour total. And only just a bit longer on the grill only because the stone takes so long to get hot. Many of my non-keto friends have tried our pizzas we’ve made, and they love them too.
And if you are someone who ends up feeling gross, or bloated, or even nauseous after eating traditional pizza, you may want to really give this a shot. And perhaps have some testing done to see if you have a sensitivity to gluten or grains.
The picture above is just to catch your attention. That is likely not gluten-free nor grain-free. The real pictures from my kitchen are below. Enjoy!
Jalapeño Popper Pizza
Jalapeño Popper Pizza is my favorite and it can be whipped up fairly quick. Making homemade pizza can be easy. Let’s start with Maria’s recipe for Jalapeño Popper Pizza.
Next gather your list of ingredients. We grow and can our own jalapeño’s and make our own bacon from our organic pork and have our own organic eggs. Check out our Homesteading Page.
Now for the other ingredients. I prefer Organic Valley’s Part Skim Mozzarella for the crust. Full Fat Mozzarella leaves the pizza too greasy for me. Also for the cream cheese I prefer Organic Valley as well. You can find them in stores or see where I get them and my parchment paper is on my Pantry Items Page.
You may be questioning, Pork Panko Crumbs? I promise, you need to try it, you will not know that pork rinds are in the crust. Otherwise read below for more options.
Choose Your Toppings - Making Homemade Pizza
This is one pizza we do often or just pepperoni and onion, Brent’s favorite. He also prefers a different crust, the one from Maria’s Restaurant Favorites cookbook page 182 Craig’s Pizza crust. For some of my favorite ingredients for that crust go to Pantry Items Page, once you have the recipe. You can also check your local library to see if they may have this cookbook for free to loan out.
Sometimes I improvise, maybe I do not have the correct ingredients or ran out of one. I will make the recipe from above for the Popper Pizza and instead of Pork Panko Crumbs, I will use almond flour. I do not usually measure but I believe it comes out about the same amount as needed for the pork crumbs. He often times cannot tell the difference when making either homemade pizza crusts.
Bottom line is, you can’t go wrong with adding any of your favorite toppings on these crusts. And I think all the crusts are delicious.
Cooking Tips for Making Homemade Pizza
Always pre-cook the crust about 7-10 minutes before adding toppings. I prefer to press the crust out on two pieces of parchment paper as mentioned above. I lay the parchment paper out in a + shape. Then for the Oven; place parchment and the crust right onto a hot Cast Iron Pizza Pan in a preheated, 425 degree oven.
However we love them grilled. You’ll want to preheat your grill and stone about 1 hour or until it reaches 425-450 degrees and holds that for at least 20 minutes. You want to make sure to get everything nice and hot. For all the tips and tools we use go to the Grilling Season Post. We take the parchment and crust and slide it onto a Pizza Peel then take it to the grill and then slide it right on the hot stone, to pre-cook.
Next after the crusts are slightly browned and firmed up, it’s time for the toppings. First your sauce or cream cheese for the Popper one. Next any extra spices and add your cheese. Then the rest of the toppings, whichever are your favorites. Lastly back into the oven or the grill. The whole process takes only about an hour start to finish. And with traditional dough you would still be proofing the dough. Enjoy Making Homemade Pizza!
New Addition - Prime Rib Philly Calzone with Blue Cheese Butter
Yes this tastes amazing! We did grill this for that info go to Grilling Season.
Frist for the crust we used the Popper Pizza Crust but substituted almond flour for pork panko and we doubled it!
Second we made dough into a rectangle and pre baked it about 7 minutes.
Third, we spread Blue Cheese (Gorgonzola) Butter for the sauce and spread extra on the top when it was done. We used Blue Cheese and also added fresh chives. And yes you must roast the garlic for this, so yummy!
Fourth, add the toppings. We used some leftover prime rib we had in the freezer but deli Roast beef would work too. Sauté ahead of time the “Philly toppings”; onion, peppers and mushrooms. Add those and some sliced fresh mozzarella or whatever you have. I get my fresh mozzarella from Misfit Market and it comes sliced. Use my referral link to get $10 off.
Fifth, fold in half lengthwise and finish cooking until cheese is melted roughly 15 minutes.
Sixth, top with more blue cheese butter and slice and enjoy!
