Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

There’s just something special about a creamy, tangy, organic homemade blue cheese dressing. It’s rich enough to elevate a simple garden salad, bold enough to drizzle over a wedge of crisp lettuce, and dreamy as a dip for fresh-cut veggies or on hot wings or a burger or steak topping.

What sparked this recipe? I was vacationing in Ely MN back in 2007 and the local grocery store had some of the best tasting blue cheese dressing, I’ve ever had so I added in some new ingredients to my current recipe. One ingredient being Chipotle pepper. For those of you that not not like HOT, it is not hot. But you can always use less. If someone comes over and they say they don’t like blue cheese dressing…. he always asks them, but have they tried mine? I’ve converted a lot of people that said they don’t like blue cheese dressing!

The best part? You don’t need to settle for store-bought versions loaded with questionable ingredients. My homemade blue cheese dressing is made with organic, wholesome ingredients you can feel good about — and it takes less than 10 minutes to make!

Why Make Your Own Salad Dressings?

Most people don’t realize just how much of a difference homemade dressings can make — not just in flavor, but in health. Here’s why making your own homemade blue cheese dressing is worth it:

  1. You Control the Ingredients
No mystery seed oils, artificial preservatives, or fillers. You choose exactly what goes in — and what stays out.

  2. Fresher Flavor
Homemade dressings have a brightness and depth that bottled versions can’t match. Fresh herbs, quality dairy, and pure seasonings make all the difference.

  3. Nutrient Retention
Fresh, unprocessed ingredients hold onto their natural nutrients, unlike processed versions that may lose potency during manufacturing and shelf storage.

  4. Customization & Less Expensive
Want it tangier? Creamier? A hint of garlic? You’re in charge! Plus making an organic homemade blue cheese dressing is less expensive then buying a tiny bottle of pre made organic dressing.

The Not-So-Tasty Truth About Most Store-Bought Dressings

When you flip over the bottle of many popular salad dressings, you might be surprised at what you find. Common problematic ingredients include:

  • Inflammatory Oils – Many brands use seed oils, soybean oil, canola oil, or other refined vegetable oils that can promote inflammation and oxidative stress.

  • Artificial Preservatives – Ingredients like calcium disodium EDTA or sodium benzoate to extend shelf life — not health.

  • Added Sugars – Sugar is everywhere… High-fructose corn syrup or cane sugar in a salad dressing? Sadly, yes.

  • Artificial Flavors & Colors – Unnecessary chemicals that can affect more than just taste.

  • Gums & Thickeners – Such as xanthan gum or carrageenan, which some people find irritating to the gut.

When your goal is nourishing your body, these extras don’t belong in the mix. And creamy dressings have a lot of these. So just another reason to make this homemade blue cheese dressing.
